The next part of the reconstruction of the tram no. 1 was started on the 10th June. The part that is planned to be ready by the beginning of September includes the renewal of the line in the 14th district, and its extension also continues.
The next part of the reconstruction of the tram no. 1 begun on the 10th June, which, according to the plans, will be finished by the beginning of September. According to the BKK Centre for Budapest Transport the current part of the reconstruction includes the renewal of the line between Kacsóh Pongrác út and Puskás Ferenc Stadium; the renewal of the stations between Hős utca and Közvágóhíd; and the work continues at Közvágóhíd and Népliget stations and the passage at Kőbányai út.
The Tracks Are to Be Renewed and the Stations Made Accessible for the Disabled
At the part of the line between Kacsóh Pongrác út and Puskás Ferenc Stadium the overhead wires, the tracks and the passages and the platform junctions at Kerepesi út the will be renewed. The stations between Kacsóh Pongrác út and Közvágóhíd will be made accessible for the disabled, and they get new benches, information boards and roofs. At the Kacsóh Pongrác út station the steps will be renewed and a new elevator constructed; and at the junction of Thököly út and Hungária körút the unused tracks are to be torn down, and a new pavement will be laid. At the junction of Róbert Károly körút and Lehel utca the old overhead wires will be removed and replaced with new ones, and at the Ajtósi Dürer sor station a new crosswalk is to be installed. According to the plans after finishing the reconstructions the renewal of the line between Kacsóh Pongrác út and Puskás Ferenc Stadium continues until the end of November.
Thanks to the Renewal the Turnaround Becomes Faster
The renewal of the line of the tram no. 1 started in September 2013. Thanks to the reconstructions the turnaround will become faster, the whole line will be made accessible for the disabled, and it will be lengthened until Fehérvári út. The line is currently 13.4 kilometers long, and it has 24 stations. The current Tatra T5C5 vehicles will be replaced by new ones made by the Spanish company CAF by the end of 2015.
