There are several popular facilities in the region of Józsefváros close to the city centre, such as the Orczy Park visited by runners and hikers, and the Bárka Theater.

After 3 other large city development projects of the 8th district a new one is about to start. After renewing the Corvin Avenue, the Palota Quarter and the Magdolna Quarter a new part of the district is to get a new face: the Orczy Quarter. Thanks to this fact the area’s popularity can increase among those who’d like to buy or rent an apartment or an office space here. The Mayor of the 8th district, Máté Kocsis entrusted Róbert Juharos, adviser of the City Operating Committee with the management of the development program; within the confines of which among others the apartment blocks lining Diószeghy utca are to be renewed.

Popular Sights of the Orczy Quarter

One of the popular facilities located at the 8th district’s quarter to be renewed is the Orczy Garden, which is often visited by runners and walkers. The area was bought by Count Lőrinc Orczy in 1783; that time lakes and parklands could be found there. The garden was opened for the citizens at the end of the century, and it shortly became a popular hiking spot. The park was renewed in 2010, the construction cost HUF 300 million. Currently a running track, basketball and soccer pitches, eating, drinking and entertainment establishments, a lake and walking paths are located in the park. The Bárka Theater is also in the garden, which was established in 1996 by the local self-government. In the monument building renewed in 1999 the fencing room of the Ludovika military academy used to operate. The first botanical garden of Hungary, the Füvészkert operated by the Eötvös Loránd University is also located at the edge of the Orczy Quarter. The botanical garden is popular by the Victoria House and the 8 thousand plant species living there, such as 150-year-old pines, cactuses and orchids.
