Tourism in Hungary set a record in August: cultural events, beaches and festivals drew a highest number of visitors than in earlier years. The number of people arriving to the country via airplane also was at record high.

According to data published by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office in the first two months of summer showed a growing number of foreign and domestic guest nights while the revenues of accommodations have also increased. July was the strongest month: revenues of hotels increased by almost 20%.

Records at the beaches

The Hungarian Baths Association reported that there were more people at baths and beaches in these months than ever before, which is surely not an accident as the summer of 2015 was exceptionally hot.

This season was also a good one for the beaches of Balaton, some of them reported as much as 30-50% more visitors than last year.

It was not only the number of guest nights that increased: Budapest Airport reported that July was the first month in its history when the number of passengers was more than 1 million in a month. The second largest airport, Debrecen Airport was used by 13% more passengers in the first 8 months of the year than a year before in the same period.

Festivals were hugely popular

The largest music festival of the country, Sziget Fesztivál registered more than 430 thousand visitors in six days while Balaton Sound had 145 visitors. EFOTT also had a record number of people visiting their number being more than 103 thousand.
