According to the expectations Nyugati tér will be renewed by the beginning of next summer. Knocking down the square has already begun, but the constructions are only to be started next February. The reconstruction of the former Skála store and the square in front of it has been planned for a long time: the visuals were made more than a year ago.
The Date of the Inauguration Was Delayed by a Year The new square was planned to be ready and inaugurated by this September. The reason of the delay is that a year ago it was revealed that the self-government of the 6th district didn’t get the whole amount they needed for the constructions. They applied for a tender, but only won HUF 295.5 million instead of the needed HUF 463.4 million; thus they didn’t have enough sources to begin the reconstruction, so the plans had to be rethought.
The Self-Government Needs More Sources The district is planning to win more sources, thus it also takes part in the 2nd round of the tender called TÉR_KÖZ. Within the confines of the reconstruction new green areas are to be built and new street furniture is to be placed on the square.
Other Future Reconstructions in the District Several other reconstructions are planned in the area: the overpass connecting Váci út and Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út is to be knocked down; but the decision of this will be made only in next spring.
