New Projects Start at the Metro Line 3 Terminal

back

The largest Park & Ride facility of Budapest was inaugurated at the beginning of April at the Kőbánya-Kispest terminal of the Metro Line 3, near the just closed KÖKI Terminál Shopping Center. The reconstruction of the overpass connecting Kispest and Kőbánya is to be started soon.

The largest Park & Ride facility of the Hungarian capital was opened on the 2nd April in Kispest, at the Kőbánya-Kispest terminal of Metro Line 3, near the KÖKI Terminál Shopping Center. The guarded indoor parking garage has 3 stories and spaces for 330 cars. The Park & Ride facility makes it easier for the drivers coming from Southern Pest to get into the city centre: leaving their cars in the garage they can reach the centre by metro in 15 minutes, avoiding traffic jams. There’s another parking garage in the neighborhood: one with spaces for 206 cars, operated by BKK Centre for Budapest Transport.

The Overpass Connecting Kispest and Kőbánya Is to Be Reconstructed

Another development is to be started in the neighborhood, the reconstruction of the Sibrik Miklós overpass connecting the traffic junction of Kispest with Kőbánya. Besides the overpass the railway platforms and the clearway heading towards Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport will also be reconstructed. The long overdue construction is to be started in April, and according to the plans it will be finished by the first part of 2016. Within the confines of the project a new road surface is to be built, the construction of the bridge replaced, the pavement renewed, and a new bike lane built.

The Overpass Won’t Be Closed during the Reconstruction

The reconstruction will be realized in 2 parts: first the lane heading towards Kőbánya will be renewed, then the another one heading towards Kispest; and during the construction the overpass won’t be closed, one of the lanes will be able to be used by drivers. The reconstruction of the overpass is managed by BKK Centre for Budapest Transport. The Sibrik Miklós overpass was built in 1978, and was last reconstructed in 1989. Since then its state became inappropriate; some of its elements became rusty, and the surface of the pavement got shattered and broken; thus its reconstruction has been long overdue. Within the confines of the project the environment of the bridge also will be rebuilt.
