Many students decide to live off campus, especially as they become more familiar with the city and what its various districts have to offer. Living off campus has the benefits of the added freedom of living wherever you like in the city, having more of your own space, of sharing rent with someone or of choosing an apartment to your own particular taste. If you do decide to rent an apartment off-campus it can be important to rent with a company that will ensure all your utility services are connected and who will be on hand should anything go wrong. Budapest offers two main types of property; new apartments in modern buildings and then what are generally termed as classical apartments. Classical are properties situated in older buildings. Some prefer the space and architecture of the old properties while others prefer the modern conveniences of new buildings.

The important thing is to choose an apartment within your budget and that's practical. Fortunately location is not such as issue in Budapest due to an excellent public transport system. Popular areas include the central districts of V, VI, and VII and the districts of IV, IX and XIII which are slightly outside the center.

Once you've selected a property from the website you can arrange a property viewing with a Tower representative who can also show you other properties that may fit your requirements. If you're choosing from abroad the best thing is to discuss it with Tower beforehand, then together we can find you a property that suits.

Upon moving in to an apartment you are required to pay a deposit along with the first months rent. For a long term contract in Budapest the typical deposit is the equivalent of two month's rent. Rent is generally paid monthly into the Tower bank account along with the common costs and utilities. It is also possible to rent an apartment for shorter periods than one year. Please consult Tower for terms.

Hardly a weekend goes by in Budapest without some open air event or another. The city benefits from some stunning architecture, plenty of culture, an agreeable (but seasonal!) climate, good public transport, and some unique features such as the famed thermal baths. The city also offers a great central European location putting places of interest such as Vienna, Bratislava, Prague, the Alps and the coastline of Croatia all within easy reach.

The cost of living is generally not as high as in Western European capitals. Rent is generally lower as are prices for groceries and public transport. Sometimes though it may be worth taking a trip over to Austria to get better deals on clothes.
